So called "district newspaper", traditionally was the main newspaper in the Pechenga district. In Soviet times its name was "Soviet Pechenga". The newspaper "Soviet Pechenga" existed from 1946 to 1994, when the first part of name was rejected and the name changed to the nowadays' "Pechenga".
Pechenga tries to cover events that happen in the Pechenga district, sometimes writing also about neighbours: Kirkenes is the most typical example. Many people in Pecehnga district complain that events coverage is far from ideal, in practice the best is done about Nikel, with little less success on Zapolyarny and very poor coverage on the things relevant to Pechenga, Korzunovo, Rybachiy peninsula and Prirechnyy to name few.
Also some people consider this newspaper biased to the favor of Pechenga district municipality which is main sponsor of the newspaper. Advertisements don't bring sufficient profit to Pechenga.
The newspaper is issued twice a week - on Wednesdays and Saturdays, having 4 or 8 pages (depending on is there TV program included or not). Often, local authorities print their decisions and resolutions, that is a problem in the sense of extra space solution. Many of resolutions are printed on the separate insert pages.
The newspaper is printed in Murmansk.
Pechenga issues a lot of articles about celebrities and anniversaries, for example taking the certain organization's jubilee as a ground for writing about staff, challenges or history of this organization.
You can buy newspaper in the kiosks all over the district or in some shops in Nikel and Zapolyarnyy.
